Opsporing van focale leverletsels met echografische contrastmiddelen

De voorbije twee jaar hebben verschillende studies uitgewezen dat echografische contrastmiddelen een belangrijke rol spelen bij de opsporing van focale leverletsels. Het betreft vooral de zogenaamde ‘tweede generatie’ contrastmiddelen onder de merknaam SonoVue® (generieke benaming: zwavelhexafluoride), die onder meer gebruikt worden voor onderzoek van patiënten met een duidelijk verhoogd risico op kwaadaardige leverletsels.

De steeds verbeterende diagnostiek en therapie van patiënten met een maligne tumoraal proces – mogelijk in combinatie met metastasering (ondermeer naar de lever) – zorgt ervoor dat patiënten een steeds betere levenskwaliteit en levensduur bekomen. Daarom moet een oncologische patiënt meer en meer beschouwd worden als een patiënt met een chronische aandoening. In het licht van deze verlengde levensduur én van het belang van een goede levenskwaliteit is het dan ook steeds belangrijker om een oncologische patiënt zoveel mogelijk orgaansparend te behandelen. Eén van de nieuwe radiologische behandelingsmethoden om organen zo veel mogelijk te ontzien en minimaal invasief te werk te gaan, is met behulp van percutane, beeldvormingsgeleide radiofrequentie ablatie (RFA).
